Man United fans react to Kieran Trippier’s dismal showing vs Ajax amid links with Spurs stopper

Supporters of Manchester United have taken to Twitter in their droves this evening, to react to Kieran Trippier’s latest questionable performance in a Tottenham jersey.

Spurs 0-1 Ajax

Mauricio Pochettino’s men welcomed Dutch giants Ajax to North London a short time ago, for the first-leg of their Champions League semi-final tie.

The hosts secured their spot in the competition’s final-4 by means of a 4-4 aggregate victory over Premier League rivals Manchester City two weeks ago.

Tottenham’s final warm-up ahead of this evening’s clash, however, saw a hugely-underwhelming performance eventually result in the capital giants being put to the sword by West Ham on Saturday.

And Spurs’ lacklustre form subsequently carried into the 90 minutes tonight.

Other than a slight resurgence during the early moments of the second-half, the North Londoners were largely-dominated by Ajax, eventually culminating in another deserved 1-0 defeat.

Donny van de Beek bagged the only goal of the clash with 15 minutes gone, slotting home in confident fashion following a typically-sumptuous team move:

‘The true heir to Ashley Young’

While few of Tottenham’s stars managed to impress over the course of the 90 minutes tonight, one to have been singled out for particularly-heavy criticism throughout proceedings was Kieran Trippier.

English international Trippier looked some way short of the standard required of a player lining out in a Champions League semi-final, with his crossing in particular having left a lot to be desired.

As such, Manchester United’s fans have since taken to social media in their droves to provide their respective takes on the Spurs stopper’s performance, amid links with a move to Old Trafford of late:

Tottenham fans single out Danny Rose for praise vs Ajax

Tottenham 0-Ajax 1

Tottenham hosted Ajax in their first semi-final leg this Tuesday.

Spurs will make the trip to Ajax for the return leg on the 8th of May.

Heading into the game there was a lot of talk that Harry Kane may be featuring as a picture of his kit was posted by Ajax.

However, when the team sheets were revealed it showed Lucas and Fernando Llorente leading the line as Heung-Min Son was suspended for the tie.

Rose impresses vs Ajax

Spurs evening would then get off to a nightmare start.

After a dominant opening period, Ajax would take the lead in the 15th minute.

Mauricio Pochettino would then be handed another big headache as Jan Vertonghen had to come off in the 39th minute.

Tottenham would come out in the second half perhaps the brighter of the two sides.

However, while Spurs looked the better of the two teams for much of the second half, it remained 1-0.

Despite Spurs failing to beat Ajax at home, Spurs fans have been very impressed with Danny Rose’s display on Tuesday.

Playing in a pretty advanced role, Rose was arguably Spurs only decent player in the first half and carried on that display for the second 45 until he was subbed off.

Some Arsenal players ‘confused’ by Unai Emery’s recent tactics

Arsenal’s top four hopes are slipping away

Earlier in April Arsenal looked very likely to be finishing in 4th place this season.

At one point they were even above 3rd place Tottenham in the table.

However, a recent run of poor form has lead to the Gunners slipping out of the top four.

Arsenal are now 5th in the Premier League with just two games left to play.

Those games are at home to Brighton and then away to Burnley and are must wins if they want to catch 4th place, Chelsea.

Maurizio Sarri’s side are two points above Arsenal and have Watford and Leicester left to play.

Arsenal players unhappy with Emery’s tactics

The run of games that derailed Arsenal’s UCL hopes took place within a week.

Unai Emery’s side would first lose 3-2 at home to Crystal Palace on the 21st of April.

They then lost 3-1 away to giant killing Wolves on the 24th of April.

Finally, Arsenal lost 3-0 to Leicester City this past weekend.

Now, according to the Telegraph, some Arsenal players have become disillusioned with Emery’s recent tactical decisions.

The report from the Telegraph cites decisions such as starting Mohamed Elneny next to Matteo Guendouzi and Carl Jenkinson at right wing-back vs Crystal Palace as particular causes for concern.

Emery’s persistent backing of error-prone Shkodran Mustafi is also mentioned.

Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva responds to Barcelona links

Silva’s superb season

Bernardo Silva joined Manchester City in 2017 from AS Monaco for a fee in the region of £45m.

Silva had a solid debut season in Manchester but was slightly overshadowed by the likes of Kevin De Bruyne.

The 2018/19 campaign, however, has seen the midfielder become a pivotal part of the City midfield.

Silva has made 48 appearances across all competitions this season, in which he has scored 13 and assisted 12.

Bernardo Silva linked to Barcelona

It is this excellent form that appeared to catch the eye of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Earlier this year Silva was being linked with moves to Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

Silva how now spoken out about the links but it’s good news for City fans as he claims he is very happy in Manchester:

“I do not think about it, I just renewed my contract with Manchester City, and after this season I have another three years on my contract.

“I am very happy in Manchester.”

Negotiations opened between David de Gea’s camp and PSG – Paris United

As per a report from French outlet Paris United, talks between the entourage of Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea and French giants PSG have been opened.

de Gea’s rise to stardom

28-year-old shot-stopper de Gea made the move to Old Trafford from Atletico Madrid in 2011.

The Rojiblancos youth product initially struggled to settle, though, with many having questioned whether or not de Gea would be capable of fulfilling his unquestionable potential under the bright lights of one of world football’s biggest clubs.

However, the years since have seen the Madrid native do just that, and more.

de Gea has established himself as one of the finest goalkeepers on the planet over recent seasons, cementing his status as Manchester United’s most important player, as well as an ever-present between the posts for Spain.

de Gea’s struggles

But, with United having, to this point, largely failed to capitalize on their shot-stopper’s brilliance in terms of securing meaningful silverware, de Gea has inevitably been linked with a possible departure from Old Trafford over the last couple of seasons.

And the alarming recent dip in form being suffered by the former Atletico man has only seen the speculation surrounding his future move up a notch.

PSG bound?

The last couple of days have seen reports throughout the English media suggest that United are already eyeing Jan Oblak as a potential successor to de Gea.

And, as per the aforementioned update from Paris United this afternoon, one club keen to take advantage of the Spaniard’s increasingly-uncertain future in Manchester are Ligue 1 champions PSG.

In fact, negotiations between the capital giants and de Gea’s camp are said to have been underway for several weeks.

And, though talks have not yet moved past the preliminary stage to this point, PSG are nevertheless said to be eyeing a cut-price deal for the United star come the end of the season, with de Gea’s current deal at Old Trafford set to expire next summer.

Fears Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger’s season is over

Chelsea star Antonio Ruidger has today been forced to undergo surgery on a knee problem, raising fears he may not play again this season.

Man United 1-1 Chelsea

Maurizio Sarri’s men travelled to Old Trafford on Sunday evening, for a crunch Premier League clash with Manchester United.

The Blues headed into proceedings occupying the final of the English top-flight’s top-4 spots, 3 points adrift of 3rd-placed Tottenham.

Manchester United, meanwhile, sat 3 points further back in 6th.

As such, both sides were aware that their European hopes for next season hung in the balance ahead of kick-off.

Alonso cancels out Mata

And, when all was said and done in Manchester, the 3-point gap between the clubs remained intact, as Chelsea tightened their grip on 4th-place.

Hosts United came out of the blocks on top, bagging a deserved opener with 10 minutes on the clock through Juan Mata.

However, just when it looked as though the Red Devils were set to head into the interval with their lead intact, and in control of proceedings, the latest headline-making blunder on the part of David de Gea allowed Marcos Alonso to slot home on the rebound.

And, following a second-half during which Chelsea largely-dominated, but struggled to carve out clear-cut opportunities, both sides were eventually forced to make do with a point.

Rudiger blow

However, while it was Sarri’s men who emerged the happier from the clash after dealing a potentially-fatal blow to Manchester United’s top-4 hopes, the Blues were also dealt a blow of their own, on the injury-front.

The player to have picked up the problem was Antonio Rudiger.

German stopper Rudiger, who was rushed back from a two-week spell on the sidelines to feature at Old Trafford on Sunday, lasted just over an hour, before limping off with an issue in his knee.

And, as per a report from the reliable Matt Law, the former Roma man’s fresh concern could well see him ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Rudiger has today travelled to Italy to undergo surgery on his knee.

And, according to Law:

‘Should meniscus damage be confirmed, then the 26-year-old is looking at a minimum of 10 weeks of rehabilitation.’

Tottenham hold an advantage over Borussia Dortmund & PSG to sign Ryan Sessegnon

Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Fulham winger Ryan Sessegnon, according to the Evening Standard.

The Cottagers are keen to keep hold of their academy product but will struggle to do so given the level of interest.

His contract situation in west London will also make keeping hold of him that bit tougher.

Ryan Sessegnon is keen to remain in the top-flight and also in London, should he leave Fulham.

This hands Tottenham a major boost in taking him off the hands of Fulham and away from the competition.

Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund are all keeping track of the teenager.

It is also understood that Sessegnon sees Spurs as an ideal club to continue his development.

Fulham are braced for bids in the region of £20-25 million given his contract situation.

His current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2020 potentially forcing the Cottagers to cash in.

Clubs abroad could land the player in January for just £500k in compensation should he not agree a new deal.

Although, Spurs in the summer now appears to be the most likely outcome for Sessegnon.

Sessegnon to Spurs? A good move for both parties

Prior to his step up to the Championship with Fulham, Sessegnon was deemed as one of the country’s biggest prospects.

However, having been unable to help Fulham avoid relegation, his status has taken a slight hit.

But a move to Tottenham could be the perfect next step for Sessegnon given the north London club’s track record for naturing young, homegrown talent.

At 18-years-old, Sessegnon, despite a tough season with Fulham, remains a huge talent and one Mauricio Pochettino could work wonders with.

Tottenham have shown a desperate need for options this term and the youngster could quiet easily have been given playing time in N17.

For Spurs, Sessegnon would offer them a player with huge potential, another great squad option and fill their homegrown quota.

Meanwhile, the player himself would get to work under Pochettino and alongside England’s biggest stars like Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Harry Winks.

Mohamed Salah’s Liverpool injury update before Barcelona

Mohamed Salah trains before Barcelona

Good news Liverpool fans.

It’s been confirmed on Tuesday that Mohamed Salah has been involved in Liverpool’s training session today before the Barcelona fixture.

Barcelona host the Reds in the Champions League semifinal first leg on Wednesday night.

There appears to be no reason to believe that Salah might not play against Barcelona.

Was the Liverpool star injured?

On Monday reports spread on social media that Salah might be injured.

Rumours claimed that Salah sustained a thigh injury during a training session over the weekend.

Of course, Salah was in action for Liverpool in their 5-0 win over Huddersfield on Friday.

The Egyptian star scored twice as well as chipping in with an assist.

So were stories of Salah’s injury true?

There’s yet to be any substantial evidence to support the injury claims.

As far as we can tell, it all started with these tweets.

Roberto Firmino also in training

In more good news for Liverpool, Roberto Firmino took part in Liverpool’s training session on Tuesday.

Firmino missed the Huddersfield game through injury, however the Brazilian is expected to feature in the Champions League.

Tim Howard reveals how much he hates Liverpool

Man United & Liverpool

Man United fans have been placed in a predicament this season.

In a Sophie’s Choice fans have been wondering if they’d rather see Liverpool or Man City win the league.

That issue peaked before the recent Manchester derby at Old Trafford.

Prior to that game, Kyle Waker revealed how Man United fans told him: “We’d rather City win the league than Liverpool.”

Man City ultimately beat United 2-0 that day to move above Liverpool in the standings.

Tim Howard reveals how much he hates Liverpool

Former Man United goalie Tim Howard has given an attention grabbing interview to CNN regarding the Premier League title race.

Howard joined United in 2003 but, after losing his spot to Edwin van der Sar, the American joined Everton.

In his latest interview with CNN, Howard has confirmed he’d much rather see Man City win the title than the Reds:

I hope Liverpool never win a title while I’m still breathing.

We have two teams in the form that they’re both in. It’ll come down to the wire. If no one has a slip up, then City wins.

Tim Howard on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

The keeper was then asked for his opinion on whether Man United should have appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

After impressing on an interim basis, Solskjaer signed a three year deal with the club. However United’s form has nosedived in recent weeks.

Howard believes all the talk of Solskjaer’s appointment being a mistake is nonsense:

So football’s funny. Pundits and fans are funny. He’s the right man for the job. Hopefully they will spend some money and they’ll get his players in and it’s no problem.

It’s funny, right? Football: He comes in and wins every game for three months and he’s the second coming of Jesus Christ and everyone loves him and then they tear him down and are ready to throw him off the ledge.
