Ivan Perisic has ‘agreed’ his Arsenal deal – Libero

Ivan Perisic ‘agrees’ his Arsenal deal

According to Italian daily Libero, Ivan Perisic has an agreement in place to join Arsenal.

Libero have revealed on Monday that Perisic has a deal in place to move to the Gunners this January.

Under the terms, Arsenal will pay the 29-year-old Croatian winger 3 million euros net until the end of the season.

Perisic will then complete a permanent move to Arsenal in the summer, when he’ll sign a deal until 2022.

Under that deal, Arsenal will pay Perisic 6.5 million euros per year.

In 18 Serie A matches this term, Perisic has three goals and two assists.

Inter Milan & Arsenal

Yet, just because Perisic has a deal in place, that doesn’t mean Arsenal will land the player before February 1.

Libero report that Inter Milan haven’t agreed terms with Arsenal.

Inter continue to baulk at suggestions that Perisic can leave on loan this month.

Instead, Inter seem to be steadfast that Perisic can only leave the San Siro this week on a permanent deal.

On Sunday in Serie A, Inter lost 1-0 away at Torino.

Armando Izzo scored the winner for Torino in the 35th minute.

After days of speculation surrounding Perisic’s future at the San Siro, Inter manager Luciano Spalletti left the Croat on the bench on Sunday.

At the same time, Inter director Guiseppe Marotta has confirmed that Perisic wants to leave the club. He told Sky in Italy:

Perisic has asked to leave but there is no offer for him. We will see in the coming days.

We will listen to the request of Perisic, he has put in a transfer request; we must try to satisfy him but also respect the value of him.

Chelsea fans react to Mateo Kovacic’s second-half regista audition vs Sheffield Wednesday

Chelsea’s fans have this evening reacted in numbers to Mateo Kovacic’s brief spell as a regista during the Blues’ clash with Sheffield Wednesday.

Chelsea’s cup ventures

Chelsea welcomed Championship outfit Wednesday to Stamford Bridge a short time ago, for an FA Cup 4th-round tie.

The capital giants headed into proceedings brimming with confidence, having secured their passage to the League Cup final courtesy of a penalty shootout victory over Tottenham on Thursday night.

Chelsea 3-0 Sheffield Wednesday

And the Blues’ return to form following their disappointing 2-0 loss at the hands of Arsenal last weekend continued this evening, with Chelsea having eventually emerged with a comfortable 3-0 win.

Willian put the hosts in front with 26 minutes on the clock, slotting home confidently from the penalty spot.

And this was how things remained until just past the hour-mark, when Callum Hudson-Odoi did brilliantly to control a pinpoint ball from Andreas Christensen, before cutting inside and finding the bottom corner of the Wednesday net.

Willian then went on to add some gloss to the scoreline with his second 10 minutes from time, combining well with substitute Olivier Giroud before slotting home off the inside of the post from the edge of the box.

‘Kovacic in the Jorginho role henceforth…’

In a routine outing for Chelsea, meanwhile, one intriguing development during the second-half saw Mateo Kovacic drop into a deep-lying ‘regista’ position, after Ethan Ampadu had struggled to fill the role generally carried out by Jorginho over the course of the opening 45 minutes.

The on-loan Croat, who has been deployed on either the right or left side of a midfield-3 by Maurizio Sarri thus far this season, impressed many at Stamford Bridge with his poise and control over the course of the second-half, with some having gone as far as to suggest that Kovacic should be handed the opportunity to showcase his talents in such a role moving forward, at Jorginho’s expense:

‘No idea how to play there either’

Others (albeit fewer), on the other hand, were not quite as impressed:

Man United boost: Neymar certain to miss first-leg vs PSG – RMC Sport

As per a report from French outlet RMC Sport, Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar will not be fit to face Manchester United in the first-leg of the Champions League last-16 tie between the sides in two weeks’ time.

PSG 2-0 Strasbourg

French giants PSG welcomed Strasbourg to the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night, for a Ligue 1 clash.

In the end, the capital outfit emerged with a comfortable 2-0 win, courtesy of goals from Edinson Cavani and Angel Di Maria.

As such, Thomas Tuchel’s moved a massive 13 points clear atop the Ligue 1 table.

Neymar crocked

However, on an otherwise positive night for PSG, the French powerhouse were also dealt a hugely-worrying blow on the injury-front.

The individual to have picked up the problem was world’s most expensive player Neymar.

After he had already been roughed up on a number of occasions, Strasbourg midfielder Moataz Zemzemi eventually left Neymar in tears following a challenge on the Brazilian attacker just past the hour mark.

Neymar subsequently limped off in clear pain to be replaced by Moussa Diaby.

In the aftermath of his side’s victory, PSG boss Thomas Tuchel confirmed to Eurosport that he was’worried’ about the fitness of his side’s star man:

‘No, I did not talk to Neymar because he’s in the hospital. Yes, I’m worried.’

‘It’s always complicated. It’s the same foot and the same metatarsal [that Neymar had operated on early last year].’

Neymar of Paris Saint-Germain

However, after the likes of the Guardian quickly suggested that Neymar looked to be in serious doubt to be fit in time for PSG’s upcoming Champions League last-16 first-leg meeting with Manchester United on February 12th, reliable Brazilian outlet Globoesporte subsequently ensured that this was not the case.

In fact, it was claimed that Neymar was set to return to the pitch within 10 days:

Neymar ruled out?

But, as per a further update courtesy of RMC Sport this evening, it is now being definitively stated that Neymar will not feature at Old Trafford.

The 26-year-old is reportedly unable to place any weight on his injured right ankle at present, with Dr. Lasmar of the Brazilian national team set to visit him in Paris tomorrow:

Spurs boss Pochettino following Palace loss: ‘Top-4, not trophies, the most important thing’

Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has tonight leapt to the defence of his side, following the North Londoners’ exit from the FA Cup at the hands of Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace 2-0 Tottenham

Spurs travelled to Selhurst Park for a 4th-round meeting with their capital rivals earlier this evening, desperate for a bounce-back result.

Pochettino’s men fell to a heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat at the hands of Chelsea on Thursday night, a loss which saw Tottenham ousted from the League Cup.

As such, with the Londoners having also fallen to a potentially-crucial 1-0 defeat at home to Manchester United two weeks ago, and seen both Harry Kane and Dele Alli ruled out until March with respective injury problems, a win tonight would have provided some much-needed respite for Spurs.

In the end, when all was said and done at Selhurst, though, respite was not forthcoming for the away side.

Palace took an early lead inside the game’s opening 10 minutes, courtesy of the returning Connor Wickham:

And former Tottenham man Andros Townsend added to the woes of the visitors from the penalty-spot 25 minutes later, after a moment of madness on the part of Kyle Walker-Peters:

A missed Kieran Trippier penalty on the stroke of half-time summed up Spurs’ evening, with a goalless second-half having eventually seen hosts Palace emerge with a 2-goal win.

‘Only builds your ego’

Speaking in his past-match press conference tonight, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino was unsurprisingly drawn on his side’s continued frustration in their hunt for silverware, after the North Londoners’ 2 most realistic chances at clinching a trophy this season were dashed in the space of 3 days.

However, the Argentine tactician was quick to warn against an overreaction to Spurs’ latest League and FA Cup exits, insisting that, though silverware remains a target, ‘the most important thing’ for his side at this moment in time is securing a place in the Premier League’s top-4:

‘People wish that in the end we win some trophies, but realistically we are doing so well. To win a title here in England like the FA Cup or Carabao Cup is to have luck as well as quality in your squad.’

‘Again we’re going to have the debate whether a trophy will take the club to the next level. I don’t agree with it. It only builds your ego. The most important thing for Tottenham right now is to always be in the top four.’

Wolves to sign Jonny Castro from Atletico Madrid on permanent basis

Castro to join Wolves permanently

Jonny Castro signed for Atletico Madrid on July 25th 2018 from Celta Vigo for a fee of around £6.3m.

Castro had played 221 games for Celta Vigo, in which he scored five and assisted 12.

However, despite impressing for his previous club, Atletico would immediately loan Castro to Wolves.

Since joining Wolves, the 24-year-old has played 19 Premier League games, only missing out on four games due to a knee injury.

After impressing in the first half of the season for Wolves, Spanish outlet AS are reporting that the Premier League outfit now want to make Castro’s signing a permanent one.

Wolves’ impressive 2018/19 season

Despite only winning promotion last season, Wolves look to have cemented themselves as a solid Premier League outfit.

After 23 games of the season, Wolves find themselves 8th in the table having won nine, drawn five and lost nine.

Nuno Santo’s side are also just one point off 7th place.

Their next game sees Wolves host West Ham United.

Given the Hammers are just one point below Wolves, this is a must-win game.

West Ham’s form in the league has improved recently.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side will also be keen to avenge their 4-2 shock defeat vs AFC Wimbledon in the 4th round of the FA Cup.

Wolves were also nearly embarrassed by a lower league side this weekend but they managed to come back and draw 2-2 with Shrewsbury.

Chelsea hosted Sheffield Wednesday in the 4th round of the FA Cup on Sunday.

With Liverpool, Tottenham, West Ham and Everton already out, Chelsea will have been keen to ensure the same fate did not befall them.

The Blues have also booked their place in the League Cup final earlier this week after beating Tottenham.

To get to the 4th round Chelsea beat Championship side Nottingham Forest 2-0.

Hudson-Odoi nets for Chelsea

Prior to Sunday’s game, it was reported by Sky Sports that Callum Hudson-Odoi handed in a transfer request as he looked to force a move to Bayern Munich.

Despite this, Hudson-Odoi started vs Sheffield Wednesday.

The game got off to a rather slow start but a Willian penalty would give Chelsea the lead in the 26th minute.

Callum Hudson-Odoi would then double Chelsea’s lead in the 64th minute with a superb goal.

The goal vs Sheffield Wednesday was Hudson-Odoi’s 5th goal contribution in five games for Chelsea.

Gianfranco Zola also gave an update on Hudson-Odoi’s future after the game.

Social media reaction

After impressing vs Wednesday, many Chelsea fans have pleaded with the youngster to remain at Chelsea.

Chelsea have already booked their place in the League Cup final this week after beating Tottenham on penalties.

The Blues will no doubt be keen to progress as far as possible in this cup as well.

Chelsea beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 in their last FA Cup outing while Sheffield Wednesday beat Luton 1-0 in a replay.

Higuain & Hudson-Odoi both start for Chelsea

Ahead of Sunday’s game, there were two big talking points heading into the match.

The first being if Gonzalo Higuain would make his Chelsea debut.

The second being Callum Hudson-Odoi handing in a transfer request.

Hudson-Odoi has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich for much of January.

Then, on Saturday, it was reported by Sky Sports that the youngster handed in a transfer request.

Despite the transfer request, both Hudson-Odoi and Higuain started for Chelsea vs Wednesday.

Whether or not this means Hudson-Odoi will remain a Chelsea player is unknown.

However, Chelsea fans have certainly had their say on the duo starting.

Chelsea’s Danny Drinkwater could join Victor Moses at Fenerbahce

As per a report from the Daily Mail, Turkish giants Fenerbahce are keen on securing Danny Drinkwater’s signature from Chelsea.

Chelsea struggles

28-year-old midfielder Drinkwater has been on the books of Chelsea since the summer of 2017, when he made the move to Stamford Bridge from Leicester City for a hefty £35 million.

However, despite having thoroughly-impressed during his time with Leicester, Drinkwater has since majorly struggled to replicate his form in London.

After managing just 5 Premier League starts under Antonio Conte last season, the once-capped English international’s game-time has since diminished further since Maurizio Sarri’s appointment at Stamford Bridge last summer.

In fact, Drinkwater has not featured for Chelsea since the Blues’ Community Shield clash with Manchester City back in August.

Fenerbahce bound?

As such, it has come as little surprise to see the Manchester United youth product linked with a potential transfer this month.

And, as per the aforementioned report from the Daily Mail, the latest club to express an interest in Drinkwater’s signature are Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce.

Fener, who have endured a dismal campaign to this point (currently sit 2nd from bottom of the Super Lig table), actually only secured the signing of one Chelsea outcast, in the form of Victor Moses, earlier this week.

The Ivorian made the move to the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium on loan until the end of next season:

And Drinkwater could soon join his former Chelsea teammate in Turkey, with Fenerbahce keen to make the English midfielder their 3rd addition of the January transfer window.

Any move would, like Moses’, also likely come in the form of a loan.

Leeds fans furious with the FA & EFL after events at Millwall vs Everton

Leeds United & Spygate

Leeds United are under serious threat of a significant punishment from the EFL.

That’s after a ‘Leeds spy’ was spotted scouting Derby County before a match in the Championship.

Following the Derby events, Marcelo Bielsa revealed that he’s sent ‘spies’ to watch all Leeds’ opponents this season.

After those revelations, the EFL have received 11 complaints from Championship clubs concerning Leeds and Bielsa’s conduct.

Leeds, who are three points clear of Norwich at the top of the league, are now investigation.

Millwall vs Everton

Millwall knocked out Everton in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.

However twenty-fours afterwards, Millwall’s win is no longer the big story.

A series of videos and photos have been posted on social media revealing shocking events during the FA Cup tie.

Those videos included a horrific punch-up in which one man was slashed across his face with a knife.

Millwall fans were also filmed singing racist songs on two separate occasions.

When it came to the football match, Millwall manager Neil Harris is also under the spotlight.

That’s after Harris lost his rag on the touchline after the TV screens at the Den showed Millwall’s second goal, which could have been chalked off for a Lions’ handball.

Leeds fans: ‘Why aren’t Millwall under investigation?’

Leeds fans are complaining in their droves about an uneven playing field.

If Leeds are being investigated for Spygate, why aren’t Millwall facing similar threats after what happened with Everton?

For the record, the FA have confirmed that they are investigating the racist chanting video. Yet Leeds fans want more – much more.

David Luiz set to agree a new Chelsea contract & the N’Golo Kante fake news story

David Luiz’s new Chelsea contract

David Luiz’s contract with Chelsea expires in the summer.

This season Luiz has been a virtual ever-present for Maurizio Sarri, however the Brazilian’s future has been in doubt.

Yet according to Goal.com on Sunday, Luiz is finally set to agree a one-year contract extension at Stamford Bridge.

Luiz’s deal fits into Chelsea’s existing contract structure for players who are over 30.

Chelsea only award one-year deals to these senior players.

While Luiz had reportedly been looking for a longer term agreement, he’s seemingly shelved those concerns. Goal.com report:

A 12-month agreement is on the table and the 31-year-old is ready to put pen to paper. It is understood that his representatives have been in London for meetings with Chelsea.

N’Golo Kante fake news

Searches are continuing in an attempt to find Cardiff City striker Emiliano Sala.

It’s been widely reported that Sala’s family have raised a considerable amount of money from an online campaign.

Several high profile footballers have contributed to the Sala search fund.

Most of the players have been French, as Sala made a name for himself with Nantes before his recent 15 million pound move to Cardiff.

Sadly, amid all the accurate reporting of the Sala search, one piece of fake news has spread.

It’s been claimed that Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante is willing to pay for the search for Sala by himself.

Those claims were attributed to a report in the Times.

That Kante story never existed in the Times, and it’s untrue.
