Odds slashed on Ivan Perisic to Arsenal & Mesut Ozil to Inter

Betting syndicate Ladbrokes have this afternoon provided updated odds on the possibility of Ivan Perisic joining Arsenal, and Mesut Ozil heading in the opposite direction to Inter Milan.

Arsenal’s hunt for reinforcements

Premier League outfit Arsenal have been one of, if not the most talked about club in Europe since the opening the January transfer market this month.

The Gunners have been linked with a whole host of players over the last 4 weeks, with Unai Emery keen to reinforce his squad ahead of a push for a place in the English top-flight’s top-4 over the second-half of the season.

The likes of James Rodriguez, Denis Suarez and Yannick Carrasco have all been hotly-tipped for a move to the Emirates, but, to this point, Arsenal have been left frustrated in their attempts to clinch their first January signing.

Perisic links

The latest player to have seen his name heavily-linked with a North London switch, meanwhile, has been Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic.

The Gunners’ first approach for Croatian wide-man Perisic was rumoured to have been firmly knocked back by Inter Milan, but subsequent reports throughout Europe earlier today have since suggested that the player himself has agreed terms with Arsenal, and that the two clubs are continuing to work towards a deal:

Perisic and Ozil to swap clubs?

Meanwhile, another player to have been touted as part of a potential transfer between Arsenal and Inter this month has been Mesut Ozil.

The German midfielder has endured a difficult spell under new Gunners’ boss Unai Emery to this point in the campaign, with Inter rumoured to be keen on his signature.

As such, betting syndicate Ladbrokes have this evening provided updated odds on the possibility of Ozil heading to the San Siro, and Perisic clinching a move to the Emirates.

And if the odds are anything to go by, then both transfers look to be inching closer to completion.

The possibility of Ozil swapping the Premier League for Serie A has been slashed from 7/1 to 7/2

Perisic’s touted move to England, meanwhile, currently sits at evens:

Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 24: Three in, three out

Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 24 kicks off on Tuesday the 29th of January at 7:45 pm UK time with four matches.

So, all of your transfers for GW24 need to be done by 6:45 pm UK time on Tuesday.

But if you are struggling to choose who to sign and who to sell this week, here are some tips.

3 in including Manchester United midfielder

Paul Pogba (8.7)

At just 8.7, Paul Pogba is a must buy for your FPL side.

Since Jose Mourinho departed Manchester United the Frenchman has been simply sublime.

In six league games under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Pogba has scored five and assisted five for United.

United are also at home to Burnley this week, meaning it is very likely Pogba will be amongst the goals once again.

Roberto Firmino (9.3)

Liverpool are set to take on an out of form Leicester City side this week.

The Foxes have lost three of their last four league games and Claude Puel is coming under increasing pressure.

Also, Liverpool are at home this week so signing a Liverpool forward would be a good choice.

One of which could be Roberto Firmino who has scored nine and assisted five in the league this season.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (11.3)

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been one of Arsenal’s best players this season.

The striker has now scored 14 and assisted five in the league and is the top forward on FPL.

The Gunners are hosting 18th place Cardiff City this week as well, meaning it is very likely Aubameyang will be on the score sheet.

3 out including Tottenham midfielder

Dele Alli (8.9)

The last week or so has been horrible for Tottenham.

They have crashed out of both domestic cups and have lost several big players to injury.

One of which was Dele Alli, who is now expected to be out of action till at least March.

Given his 8.9 price tag, you would be well served to sell Alli and buy someone such as Pogba to replace him.

Richarlison (6.8)

After a bright start to the season, Everton’s form has dipped off dramatically.

One player who reflects Everton’s decline perfectly is Richarlison.

The Brazilian was a must have FPL midfielder early in the season but he has now gone four league games without a goal or assist.

Romelu Lukaku (10.7)

Now that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is Man United boss, you would be well served to sell Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian is now seen as merely backup to Marcus Rashford who has been in fine form for Man United.

Lukaku is also yet to start in any of the six league games Solskjaer has taken charge off.

So, it would probably be wise to swap out Lukaku for Marcus Rashford.

Liverpool’s Sadio Mane responds to Real Madrid rumours

Liverpool star Sadio Mane has this evening spoken out over the rumours linking him with a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid.

Mane’s Liverpool stint

26-year-old winger Mane has been on the books of Liverpool since 2016.

The Senegalese international made the move to Anfield from fellow Premier League outfit Southampton for £34 million.

And Mane has since gone on to establish himself as one of the first names on the team-sheet of manager Jurgen Klopp.

The pacy African forms one third of Liverpool’s fearsome attacking trident alongside Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, and played an absolutely integral role in the club’s run to the Champions League final last season., notching 10 goals in 11 appearances.

All told, across 101 appearances for the Reds, Mane has racked up 43 goals.

Mane’s new deal

As such, the 26-year-old’s stellar form on Merseyside has seen Mane linked with a potential move to European champions Real Madrid.

Los Blancos were rumoured to have expressed an interest in the explosive attacker’s signature last summer, with France Football having even gone as far as to make the outlandish claim that Mane had agreed to make the move to the Bernabeu before Zinedine Zidane’s departure.

In the end, though, he stayed put, before going on to sign a new Liverpool contract in November:

‘My only concern is Liverpool’

And the Reds’ star has this evening spoken out over the links between he and Madrid, confirming that, as things stand, his sole focus remains plying his trade for Liverpool.

Speaking in an interview with World SoccerMane revealed:

‘Speculation is part of football. You just learn to live with it and not to take it too seriously.’

‘All I can say is that my only concern is Liverpool. Mo, Bobby… it seemed like everyone was signing contracts and they were saying: ‘Hey Sadio, when are you going to sign?’. I said to each of them: ‘Don’t worry bro, I will sign’.’

‘And what did I do? I signed… so they are pleased now!’

‘I’m very happy here and I think people are happy with me too. We want to write our names alongside the many great ones in the story of this club. Hopefully it’s the beginning of something special.’

Unai Emery provides updates on Denis Suarez & Ivan Perisic/confirms Arsenal will not sign a defender

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has this evening provided an update on the club’s transfer plans, ahead of the close of the January window on Thursday evening.

Arsenal’s struggles

The last 4 weeks have seen Arsenal linked with a whole host of stars across Europe.

The likes of James Rodriguez, Denis Suarez, Yannick Carrasco and Ivan Perisic have all been touted as potential arrivals in North London this month.

However, while the Gunners have made no secret of the fact that they are indeed on the lookout for January reinforcements, their attempts to actually secure the club’s first signing have thus far proven fruitless.

This comes after Unai Emery admitted earlier this month that the capital outfit cannot afford to make outright purchases as things stand:

‘We cannot sign permanently. We can only loan players. I know the club is working on possibilities of which players can help us with big performances like we need now. I cannot say more.’

Quotes via the Guardian.

‘Between nil and two’

However, despite the financial constraints on the Gunners at present, they nevertheless remain extremely active on the transfer front, with Unai Emery having this evening provided an in-depth update on the club’s strategy entering the final days of the transfer window.

Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, the Spanish tactician revealed:

‘It’s one thing the club is working on, the possibility with different players.’

When questioned specifically on Arsenal’s move for Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic, Emery continued:

‘I don’t know exactly which players, but it’s players with the possibility to help us, who can play on the wing, right or left. I think any player who can come here and help us is good news.’

On Barcelona outcast Denis Suarez, he added:

‘[Suarez] is the same [as Perisic]. This transfer is not easy and the message is that the club are working on different players. The possibility, if it can be [done], is good for us.’

‘I don’t know [what will happen] because this transfer window is not easy. I know the club are doing all they can to achieve one player to help us.’

When questioned on how many arrivals he hopes to see make their way to the Emirates by Thursday evening, Emery explained:

‘Nil or possibly two. Between nil and two. If they aren’t coming to help us like we want, then we would prefer them to not come. Two because we are looking at two different players who have the possibility to come here.’

‘Enough players who can play centre-back’

Finally, the Arsenal boss was drawn on whether or not the North Londoners intend to reinforce the heart of the club’s defence, in the midst of a recent injury crisis:

‘We can only bring players that we are very convinced will be able to help us with a good performance. We have enough players who can play centre-back in the squad.’

‘The problem is we’re having a lot of injuries in this position. We have enough players. If we brought in another player, and all the other players we have are well to play, then we could maybe have a problem in the future.’

Man United’s horror fixture list revealed following Chelsea FA Cup draw

The testing set of fixtures on the horizon for Manchester United between the middle of February and the middle of March has come to light online this evening, after the Red Devils were handed a tough tie with Chelsea in the FA Cup’s 5th-round.

United’s return to form

Premier League giants United have embarked on an absolute tear of late, following Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment at the club late last month.

The Norwegian tactician was the man chosen to replace Jose Mourinho at the helm at Old Trafford, with his impact having since been absolutely immediate.

Under Solskjaer’s guidance, the Red Devils have picked up 8 straight wins across all competitions, notching 22 goals along the way.

The latest of these victories came last Friday, when United put Arsenal to the sword in an FA Cup 4th-round meeting at the Emirates.

Goals from Alexis Sanchez, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial saw Solskjaer’s men eventually emerge from North London with a 3-1 win.

Chelsea vs Man United

As such, United sealed their place in the draw for the final-16 of the FA Cup.

Tonight’s draw, though, which took place a short time ago, was not exactly kind to the Manchester giants, with United’s reward for their hard-fought victory at Arsenal having come in the form of another high-profile clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge:

United’s tough stretch

United’s trip to Chelsea is set to take place in 3 weeks’ time, in the midst of an absolutely integral run of fixtures for the Red Devils.

As highlighted by a number of sources across social media tonight, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s credentials as the potential long-term answer to United’s managerial search will be given a stern test over a 5-week period between the middle of February and the middle of March.

The Red Devils’ fixture list, beginning on the 12th of February and ending on the 16th of March, features a 3-game stretch versus PSG, Chelsea and Liverpool, before a pair of matchups with Crystal Palace and Southampton are followed by another crucial trio of outings versus PSG (2nd-leg), Arsenal and Manchester City.

Marco Verratti injury update ahead of Man United

Marco Verratti injury update ahead of Man United

French outlet RMC Sport have this evening provided an update on the fitness of PSG midfielder Marco Verratti, ahead of the capital outfit’s upcoming Champions League last-16 clash with Manchester United.

PSG run riot

PSG welcomed minnows Guingamp to the Parc des Princes two weeks ago, for a Ligue 1 clash.

In the end, when all was said and done in Paris, the hosts emerged with a frankly-ridiculous 9-0 win.

Both Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani bagged hat-tricks, with Neymar having notched a brace and Thomas Meunier also on target.

Verratti blow

However, while the result proved a hugely-positive one for PSG, there was a cloud cast over the capital giants’ demolition of Guingamp, in the form of an injury picked up by Marco Verratti.

Italian international Verratti limped off with an ankle problem following a heavy challenge inside the game’s opening 20 minutes, with Thomas Tuchel having painted a worrying picture regarding the wellbeing of his side’s dynamo at half-time of the clash:

Tuchel’s update immediately saw concern spread amongst PSG’s supporters, with Verratti having incredibly stood as the solitary senior midfield option available to the French champions ahead of the clash at the Parc des Princes.

Adrien Rabiot has of course been banished to the stands amid his contract standoff with the capital giants, with Lassana Diarra expected to call time on his playing career any day now (according to RMC).

Man United vs PSG

On the back of Verratti’s injury, PSG have nevertheless gone on to pick up consecutive comfortable victories over Strasbourg and Rennes.

However, while the Parisians have continued to prosper domestically, their looming Champions League last-16 first-leg meeting with Manchester United on the 12th of February is no doubt set to prove a far more testing affair.

With the Red Devils on a scintillating run of form since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s appointment at Old Trafford late last month, Verratti’s ability to control the tempo of proceedings from his deep-lying berth could well prove integral to the hopes of the French outfit in England.

Marco Verratti

And, as per the aforementioned update from RMC Sport this evening, PSG will be able to count on the services of their star midfielder in two weeks’ time, with Verratti set for a return to training this week, before featuring versus Bordeaux on the 9th of February:

Man United & Chelsea to vie for Christian Eriksen this summer – Express

As per a report from the Express, both Manchester United and Chelsea are ready to launch bids to secure the signature of Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen this summer.

Tottenham standout

Danish international Eriksen has been on the books of Spurs for 5-and-a-half years now, having made the move to the English capital from Dutch giants Ajax in 2013.

And the 26-year-old has since gone on to establish himself not only as one of Tottenham’s key figures, but also as one of the most highly-regarded midfielders in England.

The last 3 Premier League campaigns combined saw Eriksen directly contribute to a hugely-impressive 63 goals.

The current season, meanwhile, has seen the Dane rack up 4 goals and 8 assists in the league.

Eriksen’s contract talks

However, despite his crucial role in Spurs’ midfield ranks, to this point, Eriksen has refused to put pen-to-paper on a new deal in North London.

The 85-time capped international’s current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2020.

Adama Traore

As such, La Liga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid have both long been rumoured to be expressing an interest in Eriksen’s services.

Real have been the most persistently-linked of late, with Los Blancos having reportedly identified the Dane as a potential replacement for another former Tottenham man, Luka Modric.

Man United vs Chelsea

However, on the back of a surprising report from Spanish outlet AS last week which stated that Real had come to the decision not to pursue their interest in Eriksen in the summer, the Express have this evening subsequently claimed that Chelsea and Manchester United are set to ‘scrap’ over the Spurs star come the end of the season.

The Premier League giants are said to have been boosted by Los Merengues’ decision to back out of the race for Eriksen. As such, big-money bids on the part of both the Blues and Red Devils are expected to be forthcoming this summer.

It is also added, though, that both PSG and Bayern Munich are interested in the Tottenham contract rebel’s signature.

Yerry Mina injured before Huddersfield & Everton transfer update

Mina injured before Huddersfield clash

After an injury-stricken start to the season, Yerry Mina has become a regular feature in the Everton backline.

Mina would start in Everton’s last game vs Millwall in the 4th round of the FA Cup.

As is often the case in the  FA Cup, Everton were the subject of a ‘giant killing’ as Championship side Millwall beat them 3-2.

Not only where Everton embarrassed by lower league opposition, they also lost Yerry Mina through injury during said game.

It has since been confirmed that Mina is having tests on his left foot.

Everton are set to take on 20th place Huddersfield on Tuesday in a must-win game for Marco Silva.

After a solid start to the season, Everton’s form has dipped and they have lost three of their last five league games.

Combined this with a humiliating FA Cup exit and it is clear Silva must beat bottom of the league this week.

Huddersfield have won just two of their 23 league games this season and have amassed a dismal 11 points.

Idrissa Gueye transfer update

Heading into the Huddersfield game, Marco Silva has also given an update on Idrissa Gueye.

Gueye has been the subject of a bid from Ligue 1 side, PSG.

The French giants are said to have offered somewhere in the region of £22m for the 29-year-old.

However, Silva has confirmed that the club rejected what they saw as a low offer for Gueye:

“For this price, I cannot see really the value. He’s a really important player for us.”

Everton & Yannick Bolasie

It’s been a long time since Yannick Bolasie was a regular feature in Everton’s XI.

Now 29, Bolasie has spent the season on loan at Aston Villa.

Over the weekend the Mirror claimed that Bolasie has told Everton he wants to leave.

The DR Congo international is under contract at Goodison Park until 2021. The Mirror reported:

Everton winger Yannick Bolasie has demanded a move to another Premier League club this month.

Bolasie surprisingly called time on his loan spell at Championship club Aston Villa this week, invoking a clause within his contract that allowed him to return Goodison Park four months ahead of schedule.

Bolasie & Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace signed Bolasie back in 2012 from Bristol City for only £350,000.

In 2016, then Everton manager Ronald Koeman bought Bolasie from Palace for £25 million.

I would just like to say a massive thank you to my Aston Villa team mates, the supporters, the staff, along with everyone else associated to the club during my loan period. I've enjoyed my spell at a great and massive football club in Aston Villa and appreciate the club taking me onboard without doing a preseason and getting me back to full fitness. Your support has been unquestionable during my time there and I'm thankful for the commitment, passion and ambition shown by everyone surrounding the pride. I've had some good memories at Villa Park and want to thank everyone who had made that possible. Especially my team mates who made me feel at home and I've now become very close with. I hope Villa can get some solid results from now on to the rest of the Season and wish you all the best of success on promotion!! Yala #UTV #GodBless

Crystal Palace are the bookies’ favourites

Bolasie could soon find himself back in a Crystal Palace shirt, according to Ladbrokes.

With the Everton winger reportedly keen on a move away from Goodison Park, the bookies now make him just 11/8 to rejoin Palace before the winter window slams shut.

That puts them miles ahead of the chasing pack, with Newcastle 6/1 and Burnley and Cardiff 7/1 apiece.

Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Roy Hodgson continues to work wonders at Palace and while Sunday’s victory would have spurred his players on for a solid end to the season, the odds suggest a familiar face could soon be back at Selhurst Park.”

Latest betting: Where will Yannick Bolasie be after January?

Crystal Palace – 11/8
Newcastle – 6/1
Burnley – 7/1
Cardiff – 7/1

West Ham’s Marko Arnautovic left Chris Sutton wanting to puke his guts

Chris Sutton on West Ham’s Marko Arnautovic

In the Daily Mail on Monday, pundit Chris Sutton has had his say on West Ham’s Marko Arnautovic.

Arnautovic has completed a rollercoaster ride during the January transfer window.

On Saturday night West Ham confirmed that Arnautovic has agreed a contract extension with the Hammers.

That deal comes on the back weeks of reports linking Arnautovic with a possible move to China.

So is Chris Sutton happy that Arnautovic will remain at West Ham?

No, the whole situation has left him wanting to puke his guts.

Marko Arnautovic madness makes me sick – Sutton

In a highly descriptive op-ed in the Mail, Sutton claimed that the Arnautovic circus has left him wanting to be sick.

Sutton has reacted particularly badly to a video which Arnautovic featured in after his West Ham contract extension was announced.

Sutton has vented his anger as follows:

There must be West Ham fans who felt like vomiting watching that video of Marko Arnautovic, uploaded less than 30 minutes after they were humiliated in the FA Cup.

Staring into the camera, Arnautovic says he’s back (where did he go?) and that he loves the London Stadium.

He also tells us only to believe what he is saying. Seriously? His brother and agent Danijel did enough talking when he said his client wants to move to China to win trophies.

Is Sutton being incredibly harsh on Arnautovic?

Completely ignored by the talking-head was the fact that Arnautovic would have received a massive pay-hike had he moved to China.

Why shouldn’t the Austrian have been tempted by earning the most amount of money he can?
