Real Madrid blow: Solskjaer wants to build team around Pogba & Rashford

Solskjaer issues hands-off warning

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer became Manchester United’s permanent manager earlier this week.

As a result, the newly appointed boss will be no doubt keen for United to keep hold off all of their top stars this summer.

In particular, Solskjaer has spoken out about building his Man United side around Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford.

This will come as a bit of a blow to Real Madrid who are said to be interested in signing the Frenchman this summer.

When speaking about Pogba and Rashford, Solskjaer stated:

“They are vital for our future.

“You have got loads of players who you can build a team around and those are two that you asked me about.”

Solskjaer was then asked if United can allow both Pogba and Rashford to reach the top of their game:

“I would believe so. That’s our aim as a club, to be achieving what we have done in the past. That is the expectations here.

“Of course, we are hoping to build a team strong enough [to be] worthy of the history of the club.” As quoted by the Telegraph.

Man United vs Watford

Solskjaer’s first game as the fulltime Man United manager comes on Saturday vs Watford at Old Trafford.

United have lost their last two games under Solskjaer but they have won 10 of their 13 league games under him.

As a result, Man United are very much in the race for a top four spot, they sit two points behind 4th place Arsenal and three points behind Tottenham.

Watford, on the other hand, sit 8th in the league on 43 points.

Unai Emery reveals why Denis Suarez hasn’t been playing for Arsenal

Unai Emery has revealed why new signing Denis Suarez hasn’t been playing for Arsenal much since his arrival.

The Gunners landed the 25-year-old in January on loan with an option to purchase in the summer.

Suarez is yet to even make a start for the north London club and has made just six appearances in total.

Following a tough start to life at the Emirates, Emery has been speaking about Suarez’s struggles breaking into the line-up.

The Spanish manager believes that the player has needed time to settle in at the club.

He also believes that he has other options in midfield meaning Suarez hasn’t been rushed straight into the team.

However, Emery also stated claims that the Barcelona loanee is finally ready to start for the Gunners.

Emery revealed:

“I think yes. I think he is OK for starting in the first 11 or for giving us this impact after.

“But I think now, our focus is collectively very strongly focused on helping in 90 minutes, or 50 minutes, or one minute.

“We are going to need every player for the next matches.

“I think it’s normal (needing time to settle at new club).

“But we have a lot of players ready and with a big mentality and a big performance for playing and helping us.

“For me, like that, we can be stronger, more competitive for taking big performances.

“With Denis or with another (player).”

Lionel Messi hits out at ‘lies’ over Argentina exclusion

Messi having none of it

Lionel Messi has hit out after he was criticised for leaving the Argentina national team midway through the international break due to an injury.

Messi made a sensational return to the national team last week having retired last year.

However, his return really didn’t get off to a great start.

His team were embarrassingly beaten 3-1 by Venezuela.

Messi then decided to return to Barcelona due to an injury he picked up before the international break.

That meant he would miss the game with Morroco and Messi was criticised for leaving the team as Argentina laboured to a 1-0 win.

Now, the Argentine has hit back at those who criticised him for leaving.

“They are always making things up about me”

Speaking this week, Messi explained that people are painting him as the bad guy.

“I’m used to what they say about me, they are always making things up about me,” Messi explained to Radio 94.7, as cited by ESPN.

“Nothing surprises me.

“There are a lot of lies being told and it makes me angry because people believe what they say. Anybody can say anything, people buy into it and then I’m the bad guy.

“The truth is I went into the international break with a strain I’ve had since before the winter break. It’s a complicated groin issue. I feel better, but I have to look after myself.”

In the most heartbreaking section of his interview, Messi even revealed that son Thiago is even confused when he is criticised so heavily in his homeland.

“My 6-year-old son [Thiago] even asked me why they crucify me in Argentina,” he revealed.

The general consensus amongst United supporters has been very mixed towards the potential design.

Manchester United’s kit for 2019/20 has been leaked

Footy Headlines have revealed leaked images of the Manchester United kit for next season.

Most notably, the leaked kit has the crest with a black shield surrounding it.

It is understood that the shield is a nod towards United’s Champions League winning side from 1999.

This design will have an extra special meaning given Solskjaer’s first full season.

The Norweign manager signed a three-year contract on Thursday to take the job full-time.

The shirt will be accompanied with black short and white socks.

Inter Milan Striker Returns To Training

Inter director Giuseppe Marotta says he used “diplomacy” to resolve the Mauro Icardi saga, but won’t reveal why the captaincy was removed.

“There are some dynamics that cannot be made public.”

The striker returned to training this week, not having played since he was stripped of the captaincy on February 13 and immediately afterwards felt pain in his knee.

After intensive negotiations with agent Wanda Nara and a lawyer, Icardi finally agreed to resume training with the rest of the squad.

“I was nicknamed Kissinger by my first President Colantuoni. I am known for my diplomacy, resolving issues with leadership,” Marotta told reporters at the Il Foglio a San Siro event.

“In this case, I tried to calm the tensions in the interest of everyone.”

It has never been clarified what prompted the decision to revoke Icardi’s captaincy and hand it to Samir Handanovic instead.

“In a club, there are some dynamics that cannot be made public. The decisions must be made with a sense of responsibility. We didn’t want to punish anyone, that’s just a fact. We reached that point because our job within the club is to protect the Coach with the objective of respecting the ‘community’ of the squad. I am not talking about the Icardi issue.

“If you want to step out there on to the field and deliver, you need a team spirit. One of the most important objectives of a club and Coach is to respect that.”

Lionel Messi claims he misses Cristiano Ronaldo

Rivalry brings the best out of players

Barcelona star Lionel Messi has claimed he misses competing with Cristiano Ronaldo in La Liga after the forwards move to Juventus last summer.

Ronaldo stunned the world of football when he decided to call time on his Real Madrid career.

Juventus convinced the player over a move and Ronaldo’s presence saw everyone’s eyes turn to Serie A.

Since then, Cristiano has been the catalyst for Juventus’ stunning league campaign which sees them top the table with a 15 point gap between them and Napoli.

Though, as a result of Ronaldo’s move, La Liga football hasn’t quite been the same.

Lionel Messi has been left to dominate the Spanish top flight on his own and is no doubt the best player in the league.

Now, Messi has been speaking about how Ronaldo’s move to Juventus has affected La Liga.

Messi: “I miss Cristiano”

Speaking in an interview in his homeland of Argentina, Messi admitted that he misses the former Real Madrid man.

That is supposedly because ‘he gave La Liga prestige’.

Though, Messi did say it was ‘difficult’ to see Cristiano win trophies during his time in Spain.

“I miss Cristiano,” Messi explained to FM Club 947 in Argentina, as cited by Goal.

“Although it was a bit difficult to see him win trophies, he gave La Liga prestige.

“Juventus are a great candidate to win the Champions League since the arrival of Cristiano, and the match against Atleti must have given them a lot of confidence.”

Maurizio Sarri: Callum Hudson-Odoi likely to start in ’75 to 80 per cent’ of Chelsea’s games in the near future

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has this afternoon confirmed his intention to introduce Callum Hudson-Odoi to his starting line-up on a consistent basis in the near future.

Chelsea prodigy

The emergence of 18-year-old winger Hudson-Odoi has marked one of English football’s biggest stories to this point in the campaign.

The explosive wide-man made his Chelsea bow under Antonio Conte last January, before going on to establish himself as a regular fixture in the squad of current Blues’ boss Maurizio Sarri this season.

All told, Hudson-Odoi has racked up 17 appearances across all competitions.

And, despite just 6 of these having come as starts, the English starlet has left a lasting impression, to say the least.

Hudson-Odoi has racked up 5 goals and 2 assists, with the gifted teen’s combination of pace, flair, technical ability and eye for goal having seen him already manage to establish himself as a firm fan-favourite at Stamford Bridge.

In fact, so impressive has Hudson-Odoi been when given the opportunity to impress this season, that he was last week handed his senior international debut by Gareth Southgate:

‘Why isn’t he playing?’

And Hudson-Odoi’s England bow has since only led to further calls for the Chelsea youth product to be rewarded with more consistent playing-time at club level.

Former Three Lions international Ian Wright had the following to say on the back England’s victory over the Czech Republic:

‘When we watched him in the Under-17s when they won the World Cup, he was one of the outstanding players.’

‘I think that listening to Gareth Southgate about he’s ready and how impressive he’s been and he’s got no problem bringing him in, he looks like an international. I thought: ‘That’s a message. That’s a message back saying how is this guy not playing?’.’

‘A message back to Chelsea. A message back to the manager of Chelsea.’

‘You look at him and he’s ready to go. Bayern Munich are showing that he’s ready to go. Why isn’t he playing?’

’75 to 80 per cent’

As such, Maurizio Sarri was this afternoon questioned on the mounting pressure to hand his side’s crown jewel a regular starting-berth moving forward, with the Chelsea boss’ response no doubt set to come as music to the ears of Blues’ fans.

Speaking in a press conference, Sarri confirmed that, in the very near future, Hudson-Odoi is set to start in three quarters or more of Chelsea’s fixtures:

Former Southampton teammate of Sadio Mane claims Liverpool star is ‘ready’ for Real Madrid

Southampton midfielder and one-time teammate of Sadio Mane, Oriol Romeu, has this afternoon tipped the Reds’ star for a move to Real Madrid.

Mane’s Liverpool stint

26-year-old winger Mane has been on the books of Liverpool since 2016.

The Senegalese international made the move to Anfield from fellow Premier League outfit Southampton for £34 million.

And Mane has since gone on to establish himself as one of the first names on the team-sheet of manager Jurgen Klopp.

The pacy African forms one third of Liverpool’s fearsome attacking trident alongside Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, and played an absolutely integral role in the club’s run to the Champions League final last season, notching 10 goals in 11 appearances.

Sadio Mane

The current campaign, meanwhile, has seen Mane’s game reach new heights altogether.

Amid Mohamed Salah’s struggles of late, Mane has taken Liverpool’s goalscoring burden on his back, with the gifted wide-man’s 11 goals in his last 11 games (7 in his last 5) having catapulted the Reds into the quarter-finals of the Champions League, and back above Manchester City atop the Premier League table.

Real links

As such, Mane’s scintillating form has since led to inevitable links between the Metz youth product and some of European football’s other heavyweights.

The outfit most persistently-linked with a move for the Senegalese star have been Real Madrid, with reports in Spain having been rampant regarding Los Blancos’ interest in Mane on the back of Zinedine Zidane’s reappointment earlier this month.

‘He is ready’

And one of Mane’s former Southampton teammates this morning provided his backing to the prospect of the in-form attacker making the move to the Bernabeu.

Speaking in an interview with Marca, Oriol Romeu, formerly of Barcelona, lavished praise on Mane, also revealing his opinion that the one-time Saints star could ‘help reverse Real’s current situation’:

‘He is ready [for the move].’

‘Madrid are a little weak in attack and he’s the type of player that does a lot of damage in open spaces.’

‘He could help them reverse their current situation. He brings variation in attack, but he’s not a prolific goalscorer like Cristiano Ronaldo, who goes well above [other forwards].’

‘What I would highlight, above all, is his speed. He is a very electric and dizzying player. He has exceptional physical and technical qualities.’

‘At Liverpool he’s grown a lot. This season, he’s enjoying his best season in front of goal. I think he’s acquired calmness and composure when finishing moves, either scoring or assisting. That is key.’

Man United blow: Real Madrid label Raphael Varane ‘non-transferable’

Arsenal legend Pires: ‘Magician’ Mesut Ozil ‘like Dennis Bergkamp’

Former Arsenal star Robert Pires this morning lavished praise on ‘maestro’ Mesut Ozil, amid the disappointing campaign being endured by the gifted midfielder.

Ozil the enigma

Ozil, who splits opinion among both fans and pundits alike due to his languid style on the pitch, has been plying his trade at the Emirates stadium since 2013, when he made the move from Real Madrid for 50 million Euro.

Despite registering impressive assist numbers for the club over the last 6 seasons, though, the German has found it difficult to rediscover the consistent brilliance that saw him widely-regarded as one of the world’s finest attacking midfielders whilst in the Spanish capital, with wonderful showings all too often followed by anonymous outings from the Schalke youth product in North London.

The Emery effect

As such, Ozil has been persistently-linked with a potential Arsenal departure over recent seasons.

And the arrival of Unai Emery as Arsene Wenger’s replacement at the helm at the Emirates last summer has since only resulted in speculation surrounding the German’s future moving up a notch.

To this point in the campaign, Ozil has started in exactly half of Arsenal’s Premier League outings.

This comes despite the 30-year-old having put pen to paper on a new deal worth a whopping £350,000-per-week last February.

In fact, Matt Law of the Telegraph even went as far as to suggest last month that Ozil’s recent struggles have seen intermediaries begin the ‘sounding out’ process, in the hopes of finding the experienced German a new club this summer.

‘A magician, a maestro’

One individual long-associated with Arsenal to have this morning provided his backing to Ozil, however, is former Gunners’ star Robert Pires.

Club legend Pires, who lined out in North London from 2000-2006, revealed his opinion that the German acts as a crucial figure in the Arsenal squad, with the former wide-man having even gone as far as to compare Ozil to one of the greatest players in the history of the capital outfit, Dennis Bergkamp.

Speaking in an interview with Joe, Pires explained:

‘He hasn’t started many games [recently] because he’s been injured with a small back problem. But now, the most important thing is to see Mesut in the line-up.’

‘He’s very clever. He can make good assists and sometimes he can score.’

‘For me, he’s like Dennis Bergkamp. He’s a magician, a maestro.’

‘Of course, he’s not a warrior, like Dennis… or like me. But in the team, you need everything. And when you have Mesut, he’s important.’
