Leicester City complete signing of Monaco’s Youri Tielemans

Impressive coup for the Foxes

Leicester City have completed the loan signing of Monaco midfielder Youri Tielemans with Adrien Silva moving the other way as part of the deal.

The Foxes have been linked with a move for Tielemans for a number of weeks now.

Monaco are obviously in a very difficult position and could potentially suffer relegation from Ligue 1 if they don’t buck their ideas up.

Leonardo Jardim has returned to the club and Monaco have made a plethora of first-team signings which could have pushed Tielemans out the door.

Portuguese midfielder Adrien Silva went in the other direction on loan after failing to impress at the King Power.

Though, Monaco’s loss could be Leicester’s gain in relation to Tielemans.

That is because the Belgian was so highly rated during his time at Anderlecht.

Should Claude Puel get the best out of the midfielder, it could be a very shrewd piece of business.

Excited to get going at his new club

Now, Tielemans has been speaking about his move.

Safe to say, he’s very excited to get started at his new club and is excited to play in the Premier League.

“I’m really excited to get going,” he explained to the Leicester official website.

The Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world and when I was young, I always watched Premier League games.

“I’m really happy to be here and I’m excited to get started.

“It’s a big family. Everybody is really kind and really good with me. I think it will be really good here.”

Giovinco Fires Shots At Toronto FC Owners

One of Major League Soccer’s best players Sebastian Giovinco, has blamed Toronto FC’s ownership group for his departure from the club. “Management prefers to focus on things other than the pure desire to win.”

Giovinco ended his historic spell with Toronto FC on Thursday to make a lucrative move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal, but the former Juventus attacker took to Instagram to set the record straight about his transfer.

“Toronto has been home to me and my family for almost 5 years. I arrived here from Italy in January 2015 and immediately felt something special,” began the 32-year-old.

“From day one, I worked hard to repay the opportunity that Toronto had given me. From that first year, I realized that we could do great things here.

“hrough hard work, passion and determination my teammates and I transformed TFC and made it one of the best clubs in MLS and in North America.

“We didn’t do this alone. Without our great fans this would not have been possible. I can confidently say that I significantly contributed in making unprecedented history at TFC.

“We wrote a new chapter in the club’s history, together. All for One. This journey has been a wonderful experience for my family and me.

“It’s without hesitation that I can say that I wanted it to end differently. As I have always maintained, I was hoping to renew my contract and finish my playing career in a city that feels like home.

“It is here where my daughter was born and where my son took his first steps on a football pitch. A place my family loves to live and wanted to call home for good.

“Unfortunately, this desire of ours has clashed with a change in direction with current TFC management.

“For the 2 years I have been seeking to extend my contract however management was reluctant.

“Recently, after refusing to exercise the club option for 2020, I was offered terms that I deemed unacceptable.

“They may say I left for a more lucrative deal, but this is not the case. Their offer and lack of transparency is a clear message.

“It seems management prefers to focus on things other than the pure desire to win. After having grown the brand and elevating the overall reputation of TFC both at home and abroad, it seems I no longer serve a purpose.

“I would have accepted less to stay in Toronto. Therefore, I reluctantly announce that my tenure as a TFC player has come to an end.

I will now focus my attention and efforts towards another challenge. With me I bring beautiful memories. Toronto – the 6ix – you are and will always remain in my heart.

“Thank you for everything you have taught me about myself and about life. I love you Toronto! Seba.”

In his time in MLS, Giovinco won the MLS Cup, the Eastern Conference Championship twice and the Voyageurs Cup four times.

Roy Hodgson suggests he’s not happy with Crystal Palace’s business

Not happy in the slightest

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has suggested that he’s not happy with the club’s business so far in the January transfer window.

Palace are not in the most comfortable of positions right now.

They, Southampton and Burnley are all sat just above the Premier League relegation zone.

With that in mind, you would have expected the Eagles to dive into the transfer market to ensure their survival.

That hasn’t exactly been the case with Palace’s only first-team signing coming in the form of Bakary Sako.

The winger rejoined the club for free after spending some time at West Brom.

The only other signing so far is Lucas Perri who is a young goalkeeper and is considered to be the fourth choice shot-stopper.

“A goalkeeper was far from my player on a list of priorities”

Now, Hodgson has spoken out about the transfer window so far.

He claimed that the club have brought in one player he wanted, Sako.

Though, in terms of the goalkeeper, he was far down the list of players he wanted.

“We have brought in one player that I wanted in Bakary Sako – I think he will help us,” Hodgson explained, as quoted by the Daily Mirror.

“I was told we brought in two players but to be honest, I don’t really count the young goalkeeper who is here with a view to the future and with a view to us assessing him over the next six months.

“A goalkeeper was far from my player on a list of priorities because we have three very good goalkeepers at a senior level.”

Why a Jamie Vardy precedent means Crystal Palace’s Zaha faces extended ban

The big news for Palace today is that Wilfried Zaha is facing an extended ban.

The winger was sent off after sarcastically clapping the referee during the clash with Southampton.

Now, he could be facing longer on the sidelines.

Click here to find out why.

Why a Jamie Vardy precedent means Crystal Palace’s Zaha faces extended ban

Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha looks set to have his impending ban for the red card picked up by the Ivorian international versus Southampton last night extended by the FA.

Southampton 1-1 Crystal Palace

The Eagles travelled to St. Mary’s for a crunch relegation battle with Ralph Hasenhüttl’s Saints, with the two sides having sat level on 22 points ahead of kick-off last night.

Visitors Palace took the lead shortly before half-time, when Wilfried Zaha did brilliantly to cut inside and drill home from the edge of the box with his right-foot.

However, Southampton pulled level with 13 minutes remaining in the clash, when a superb piece of football down the Saints’ right eventually saw Matt Targett’s pull-back slotted home by James Ward-Prowse.

Zaha dismissed

And a hugely-disappointing closing quarter of a hour for Palace was compounded in the game’s closing minutes, when Eagles’ star man Wilfried Zaha was given his marching orders by referee Andre Marriner.

After having his appeals for what appeared to have been a foul on the part of James Ward-Prowse waved away, Zaha angrily approached the Saints’ goal-scorer, with a heated exchange having eventually seen the Palace man booked.

Zaha, who came in for his weekly dose of rough treatment throughout proceedings last night, then allowed his emotions to boil over, sarcastically clapping Andre Marriner’s decision.

Marriner didn’t hesitate, and quickly produced a second yellow card, before handing Zaha his marching orders.

The Ivorian went on to clap the official’s subsequent decision, too, before being ushered away from the scene by Palace’s players.

Wilfried Zaha sent off vs Southampton

‘His behaviour following dismissal amounts to improper conduct’

And the FA have this evening confirmed that Zaha’s actions have landed him in hot water.

A statement on behalf of the Premier League’s governing body a short time ago revealed that the gifted wide-man’s clapping has seen him charged with improper conduct.

As such, Zaha looks set to have his automatic one-match ban extended:

If this does turn out to be the case, then the 26-year-old will miss Palace’s upcoming meetings with both Fulham and West Ham.

Vardy precedent

If history is anything to go by, then all signs point towards Zaha’s ban being extended.

A similar incident in 2016 saw Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy hit with a two-game suspension, after he reacted poorly to being dismissed by Jon Moss for what was adjudged to have been a dive during a clash with West Ham.

Players Leaving or Joining Chelsea In the Remainder of The Transfer Window

With the transfer window coming to a close, the odds are hot for who will be signing on or leaving Chelsea this season. Chelsea have already snapped up Gonzalo Higuain from AC Milan. The former Real Madrid and Juventus hotshot didn’t seem to adapt well to playing for Milan after his role in Argentina’s somewhat disastrous 2018 World Cup run. The Higuain signing has triggered the sale of the out-of-favour forward Alvaro Morata to Atletico, so it would seem that Higuain is a straight replacement. The big signing so far has been Borussia Dortmund forward Christian Pulisicfor a total of £58 million, but they’ll be loaning him back to the German club until the end of this season, so fans won’t be seeing him in blue until next season.
The exit of Victor Moses also means that you could currently put Chelsea at a net-loss in talent over the course of the transfer window, which for fans used to seeing their team on the perimeter of the top four will come as a shock. All this suggests that ambitious manager Maurizio Sarri will be eyeing up a number of targets. While the West London club has been extremely solid so far, with just 23 goals conceded, it’s the other end of the pitch where they’ve struggled.
On-form Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea with sports bettingsites giving good odds of 7/1. The 26-year-old has been on a sparkling goal-scoring run that saw him earning an England cap last year. That’s exactly the kind of thing that the Blues could do with, having been a little lacklustre in front of goal. However, after a small knee operation, the move might be ruled out for this transfer window at least.
Watford’s skilful French midfielder, AbdoulayeDoucoure, has been having a stellar season and hasn’t been quiet about his desire to play for a bigger club. Doucoure could solidify Chelsea’s midfield and provide the team with a greater range of options in the middle of the park, with odds still available on him for 7/1. However, it would seem that Chelsea would need to make a huge bid to tempt Watford to sell and with it being so late in the transfer window, selling Doucoure now wouldn’t give them much time to recruit a new replacement, potentially condemning them to an unexpected relegation battle. As such as important player to Watford, it seems unlikely that Chelsea will get lucky.
The big ‘will he, won’t he’ story of the Chelsea transfer window has been the ongoing courtship of Eden Hazard by Real Madrid. Hazard has expressed his desire to play for the Spanish giants and Blues manager Sarri seems to have paved the way by saying of Hazard “if he wants to go, he has to”. But would Chelsea really be willing to let go of their best player without sufficient time to sign a replacement? Odds are currently 6/4 for him to head to Real Madrid, with 11/10 to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Idrissa Gueye transfer update: Everton refuse to do business with PSG

Gueye looks to be going nowhere

Idrissa Gueye now looks set to remain at Everton with the club reportedly refusing to do business with Paris Saint-Germain so late into the window.

The Senegalese midfielder has been in the newspapers for a number of weeks now.

Gueye is one of the staples of this Everton side and is currently rated as one of the best tacklers in the Premier League.

That has led to interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

They aren’t the only ones, however.

It was reported earlier this week that Manchester City and Arsenal were also interested in the player.

Though, there has been nothing to suggest since that a move would happen this window.

Now, with time running out, it looks as though PSG will have to admit defeat in their pursuit of Gueye.

Everton refusing to do deadline day business

That is because Everton are reportedly flat out refusing to do business with PSG today.

According to TF1, they are done with the club despite Gueye’s desire to leave.

It’s not exactly stated why, though you would assume it’s to do with either Everton just not wanting to sell him or the gap in valuation and the lack of time left.

It was reported earlier in the week by Sky Sports that a bid of £21.5million had been submitted and they further reported today that PSG were unwilling to up their offer.

Safe to say, Everton and most football fans will know that Gueye is probably worth more than that and as a result, the Toffees have ceased negotiations.

Everton push for Batshuayi deal with Chelsea demanding £35million

Anthony Martial’s new Man United deal confirmed

Manchester United have this afternoon confirmed that Anthony Martial has put pen to paper on a dew deal with the club.

United standout

23-year-old winger/forward Martial has been on United’s books since the summer of 2015, when the Red Devils agreed to splash out a fee with the potential to rise to £58 million to secure the Frenchman’s signature from Monaco.

And Martial has since gone on to establish himself as a firm fan favourite at Old Trafford, despite having long-struggled to hold down a consistent starting spot over recent seasons.

All told, since his arrival in England, Martial has racked up 46 goals and 28 assists across 161 appearances for United.

‘Wants to leave’

Despite his impressive exploits for the Red Devils, though, the 18-time capped French international was actually heavily-linked with a transfer last summer, amid struggles for playing under Jose Mourinho.

In fact, Martial’s agent, Philippe Lamboley, even went as far as to confirm his client’s intention to depart Old Trafford during an interview with RMC Sport in June:

‘After thinking about all the factors and possibilities, Anthony wants to leave Manchester United. There are lots of factors, and right now it’s too early to talk about them. Manchester United want Anthony to extend his deal and do not want him to leave. But we have not reached an agreement for several months.’

Anthony Martial

Anthony Martial celebrates during the Premier League match between Everton and Manchester United

‘I think that when Manchester United, the most powerful club in the world, do not find an agreement after eight months of negotiations then they do not really want to keep such an important player in their squad. That’s why this decision has come. It’s a well-thought-out decision.’

‘Everyone will have their opinion. But I think he needs to resume his career. The time has come.’

Martial’s new deal

In the end, United firmly shut down the possibility of Martial’s departure, though, with the gifted attacker having since gone on to enjoy a more prominent role to this point in the current campaign.

The appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford bodes well for the 23-year-old moving forward, with Martial’s talents in keeping with the fast-paced, attacking brand of football favoured by the United boss.

And, as per the aforementioned update this afternoon, on the back of mounting rumours that the Frenchman was inching closer to committing his long-term future to the Red Devils, Martial has penned a new Manchester United contract.

The former Monaco man’s management company first posted the following on Instagram:

And Martial himself subsequently went on to confirm that he was ready to put pen to paper on fresh terms at Old Trafford:

Finally, the last few minutes have seen United themselves make Martial’s new contract official:

Good for Fulham: Crystal Palace’s double injury blow

Crystal Palace vs Fulham

Crystal Palace host Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.

Will the Eagles be sucked into the relegation mire?

Roy Hodgson’s Eagles have 23 points on the board after 24 matches this season.

Palace are 15th in the table, ahead of Southampton and Burnley on goal difference.

Palace have a four-point cushion above third-bottom Cardiff City.

As for Fulham, the Cottagers are second-bottom of the division.

Fulham boosted their survival hopes in midweek when they beat Brighton 4-2 at Craven Cottage.

Crystal Palace’s double injury blow

Palace drew 1-1 away at Southampton on Wednesday night.

Wilfried Zaha was sent off for the Eagles in the final stages of the game. That means that Palace’s best player will be missing against Fulham through suspension.

But will Palace also be missing two other key players?

Both Cheikhou Kouyate and James Tomkins are doubts for the Fulham match after suffering knocks at St Mary’s.

Kouyate received a ankle injury against the Saints. He was forced out the match in the 71st minute, while Jeffrey Schlupp was introduced off the bench.

In the final stages of the match, Tomkins suffered a hamstring setback. The centre-half was replaced by Scott Dann.

Chelsea battered at Bournemouth

Will Chelsea finish the season in the Premier League top four?

Chelsea are down to fifth in the table following their heavy 4-0 drumming at Bournemouth.

The Blues are behind Arsenal in the standings on goal difference.

Man United are also breathing down Chelsea’s necks sitting just two points behind the Blues.

Chelsea collapsed at the Vitality Stadium in the second half.

Josh King scored a double, while David Brooks and Charlie Daniels also found the target.

Chelsea vs Huddersfield

While Chelsea have performed well in recent cup matches, their league form is poor.

The Blues have now lost successive league games to Arsenal and Bournemouth.

Will Chelsea arrest that losing run against Huddersfield this weekend in the Premier League?

Huddersfield are rock bottom of the division, while the Terriers have lost 10 of their last 11 matches.

Gonzalo Higuain is injured

In bad news for Chelsea, Maurizoi Sarri confirmed that new signing Gonzalo Higuain is injured.

Higuain made his league debut against the Cherries, however it was a largely forgettable performance from the Argentine.

After the match, Sarri revealed that Higuain is carrying a back problem. The Italian confirmed:

He can improve a great deal. At this moment, he is not in good shape, probably because he has played very little recently between transfer market distractions and back pain. He can grow a great deal over the next few weeks.

Bad for Bournemouth: Callum Wilson & David Brooks injury updates before Cardiff

Bournemouth 4 – Chelsea 0

Bournemouth enjoyed an incredible second half against Chelsea in the Premier League on Wednesday.

The Cherries scored four times to inflict Chelsea with a heavy defeat on the south coast.

Josh King scored a brace for Bournemouth, while David Brooks and Charlie Daniels chipped in with the other goals.

Cardiff vs Bournemouth

Bournemouth return to Premier League action on Saturday night when they head to Wales to take on Cardiff.

Cardiff, who lost 2-1 at Arsenal in midweek, after third bottom of the league.

The Bluebirds only have 19 points, while they are three points behind Southampton and Crystal Palace in the race to beat the drop.

Bournemouth are 12th in the division on 30 points.

Callum Wilson & David Brooks injury updates

Callum Wilson missed the Chelsea match through injury.

Bournemouth also lost David Brooks to injury in the second half against Chelsea.

Brooks was subbed out the game in the 68th minute as Jordon Ibe was introduced off the bench.

After the win over the Pensioners, Eddie Howe gave updates on his two injured players:

Callum Wilson just had a minor knee operation to clean out the knee. We don’t think he’ll be out long, maybe three to four weeks.

As for David Brooks, I need to speak to him and the physios to find the extent of his injury.
